I'm going to be taking a hard look at switching from my two AT&T PSTN lines and dumping my longtime favorite AT&T CallVantage (due to the concern that it's being mothballed at end of the year by many accounts, and not disputed by AT&T's PR folks) over to the now established
T-Mobile @ HOME service. The reason is simple. Cost.
Currently, AT&T is receiving $120.00 or so a month for two lines I rarely use, and $76.00 for the two CallVantage lines as well at the house. Given most of the time I spend using VoIP lines that I have via true SIP providers like inPhonex, Junction Networks' OnSip or CallCentric, making calls via Skype, International calls via Truphone Anywhere and their new TruUnlimited plan or on my unlimited cell phone plans, I have to really question the roughly $200.00 a month spend, when I can have T-Mobile fully integrated into my home phone service with two lines for $20.00.
Cost wise, it's a no-brainer, but I'm wondering what the service experience has been.
If you currently are using @HOME or have in the past, please post a comment. In a week or so I'll make the final decision, but cost alone, has me leaning towards cutting Ma Bell's cord....
Andy,
I was a beta tester and then purchased the service as soon as it launched here in Seattle. For the first six months or so I had to reset the router once a month to get the phone connection back up, but for the last 6+ months it has worked flawlessly for me and voice call quality has been outstanding. For only $10/month it is a fantastic bargain and I have been very happy with the service. It doesn't offer all the latest bells and whistles, but it works and sounds good which is all I need for this type of service.
