When I see this kind of money in series C being spent, it's clear to me that the VC's and others look at the early rounds as "build it" rounds. Now the market has to be reached out to effectively.
Too many companies know about selling in (Biz Dev) but lack the follow-through to sell through to the market. That's where serious sales and marketing is needed, and why bigger rounds of fund raising are required.
