An eagle eyed pal pointed out that CounterPath, makers of the EyeBeam and Bria softphones for Macs and PC's had some job cuts.
I'm a fan of their products and have been in trials with their latest Beta release on the Mac that was supposed to have improved echo cancellation. Now I wonder who to follow up with there.
Over the years Counterpath has done a very good job at getting their software out there, with some very good licensing deals, but their inconsistency with outreach to the community of late has made it really hard to get a read on them.
You're not kidding about the inconsistent outreach. I've heard from several sources that they are very difficult to deal with.
Their web site doesn't seem to allow direct sale to non-North American customers.
Their web based client doesn't support G.722.
Their retail product, sold online, doesn't support G.722.
Their OEM version, which does support G.722 doesn't inter-operate well with wideband capable hard phones (Polycom, snom, etc).
They appear to be missing a lot of possible opportunity for leadership. They're leaving an opening for someone to step up.
