Silicon Alley Insider suspects that Skype might be for sale. I'm not so sure.
Back when the recruiters were out headhunting for a new CEO they were looking externally, then pulled back and told a series of potential candidates that Skype's parent company, eBay, was going to explore strategic options. One of those could have been considered selling off the company, and the move to hire an insider, Josh Silverman, could be considered that.
Right now though I would think it's a lousy time to be selling something that is growing. On the other hand, I do think Vonage will be sold within the next 18 months.
