The New York Times has a very interesting article about the social implications of what happens when people switch cell phone carriers.
The idea of calling circles dates back to the MCI "Friends and Family" era of calling plans, but in the era of the mobile society friendships are made and maintained on the go via a mobile phone.
Companies that can enable cross carrier free calling and texting will be the winners here in my view, unless the carriers try to block and tackle them...
