Ted Wallingford has a very riveting post about two of the VoIP industry's publicly traded companies, Vonage and Covad.
The key point here is innovation and Ted picked up on that from the get go. Vonage has not innovated since their founding, and that was due to Jeff Pulver for the most part who had a vision, which Lou Holder and Jeffrey Citron grasped and made happen. Since Mr. Von and Vonage went their separate ways beyond some small things Vonage has pretty much been a Voice 1.0 replacement for the bill and the wire.
On the other hand, client Covad (we handle their Blogger Relations Program as Jon Arnold explained today) has embarked on a pathway towards innovation. As Ted has pointed out the Covad WiMax program is well on its way to bring differentiation to the telecom world. In light of the recent success of ClearWire, it would seem with WiMax in major markets like Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and Las Vegas, that Covad is looking at wireless the right way.
