Cisco is making some bold moves and I like it!!
They are clearly getting past the infrastructure and into the end user experience. Their Linksys unit aside, which I think is rapidly becoming a lab experiment in consumer marketing for the networking giant, when i look at some of the statements that John Chambers is making, and when you start to put the pieces together, Cisco is looking deeply at being a closer part of everyone's lives.
Their vision for what can be done at sports venues is right on. Trust me. I grew up in that business and cut my teeth in the business world working for three teams, before going agency and client side.
Cisco has the money to buy their way in. Sports and venues are also very immature whenit comes to technology, the same way that the telecoms are immature and wide eyed when it comes to Hollywood.
Cisco is in an ideal position to clean up, and my guess is, they will.
