8x8, the company behind Packet 8 has of late been on a roll when it comes to patents, and today announced they have been awarded a patent for what appears to cover what an ATA does.
If this is indeed what the patent covers, then the folks at Cisco, who first licensed, then had Linksys purchase Sipura, may be wondering what their IP covers, as reading the extract from the press release seems to say that if there is both an analog input port and an IP output port on the device and the device is used for telephony, then 8 x 8 has the patent.
