A report out of the UK has Apple's iPhone being released in consort with Helio, though I've heard more than likely it will be with Cingular, but since Helio is a CDMA play, they could get it on that side of the world.
The key to this is what is tabbed FMC (fixed mobile convergence) and that blends Mobile with VoIP, something the folks at BridgePort Networks knows all about. During 3 GSM world they made a series of announcements and demonstrated the ability to do what their Biz Dev wiz Sanjay Jhawar calls "seamless handover."
That means you can have a call on the GSM side and walk into a location with WiFi access and have the call switch over. For network operators this is the way to deter the likes of what iSkoot and others are seeking to do, by offering their cusomers a better and more reliable option.
