Skype is going after the small business market.
So too are Avaya, with their Nimcat platform and client Popular Telephony with their Peerio platform via a connectivity deal with Level3.
That's great for them, but the market segment better start thinking about IT management on an outsource basis too. Things like security, bandwidth needs and allocation, updates. The type of technology coming down the pike (or here today) is getting beyond the "oh my brother in law can fix that."
The needs to understand what works with what and how is clearly upon us now. I see a looming business opportunity for the return of the consultant who knows how all this stuff works and can keep it working.
