It looks like the Bay Area is getting EvDO something that will make Om Malik happy. Last week the Business 2.0 uber-blogger commented how lagging the SF area was when it came to high speed. Now that he's got EvDO maybe he'll see and experience what I've had in San Diego for over a year now :-) This will also make Jeff Pulver happier, as the King of VoIP has been a convert to EvDO for a while publicly on his blog.
The implications though are also interesting. I've held conversations over EvDO with Skype Journal editor/founder Stuart Henshall and others using Skype. If your world becomes so Skypecentric or if the Yahoo IM client performs as promised using SIP, for $80.00 a month all you can use, your laptop or PDA becomes your cell phone.
I keep thinking, this is not what Verizon (or SPRINT) has in mind and that for many the idea of an EvDO card still means DATA, while to those of us on the bleeding edge it means what other disruption can it help enable.
