AOL has been rather quiet lately about their VoIP offering so I was surprised to see this announcement that they are widening their package availability in Canada.
This means that AOL is offering all of Canada that has broadband VoIP, putting them directly in competition with Vonage, which has made similar moves of late.
While AOL continues to refer to their E-911 capabilities in their announcement, something that has been a consumer messaging plank for them from the very start, Vonage makes no mention of it. If you recall a few months back the CRTC told the VoIP carriers in Canada to be ready to handle emergency calling, but of late the news on that front has been rather quiet.
