Jeff waxes on about the proposed efforts by governments at all levels to tax VoIP, comparing the tax rates to Sin Taxes, but only greater.
My gut says that these efforts are being propped up by the RBOCs who want things slowed down until they can catch up. Anything that can hinder the upstarts is being thrown around by the Baby Bells.
It is time for the cable, next gen carriers and non Bell DSL's to unite and form their own lobbying group to create a clearer picture of the landscape. The Baby Bells have an arsenal of PR, Public Affairs and Lobbyists at their disposal. They are waging a very behind the scenes, yet nationally orchestrated war on VoIP provider. It's time to make sure they are exposed and more importantly countered.
