No one ever gets fired for buying IBM or Cisco is an axiom that makes the rounds when smaller less established companies decide to use the either of the two giants. So decisions will now only be easier, and likely more expensive, as the two venerable companies join together to go after the corporate enterprise market for VoIP services.
As part of the relationship IBM will offer computer and software technology while Cisco will provide Internet Protocol products and expertise to companies who engage them for deployments.
Both IBM and Cisco run marathons, not sprints (no pun intended). If one looks at one of Cisco's past moves in the area of alliances one clearly sees a roadmap where they will be looking to generate the business from. It's called swarm and surround. Basically Cisco now has more horsepower from IBM to sell more hardware with the network and integration partners in place.
