Files Anywhere (Your Connected)

Judy Sohn likes Carbonite as her back up service of choice, while I was a fan of Joyant's BingoDisk. That was until I tried to get it working with Vista. No joy.

Now I'm loving JungleDisk. Basically its like having an always on jump drive as long as you have access to the Net. This has changed my whole approach to file storage, and candidly, made it rather easy to use multiple PCs, both Mac and Windows...

More WiFI In the Sky

PhoneBoy tells me that both American and Alaska Airlines plan on adding WiFi to their flights..SWEET.

In seat power is key to this in my opinion.

Also, my view is that Southwest is the best airline in the USA of the majors today. If SW adds WiFi the game will be over before the first shot gets fired. I say this because they are both business and family friendly. They have numerous flights to and from all the tech hotbeds of Austin, Seattle, San Jose, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego.

The New York Times Special Section on Business Travel

Today's New York Times has an online "pullout" about Business Travel.

One of the key points throughout stories included is WiFi. It seems hotels have all caught on to WiFi. Now only if they would understand bandwidth.

Virgin America To Offer WiFi In Flight

This is music to my ears.. I had the good fortune to use WiFi on Lufthansa and SAS while flying in 2005 and 2006. With the two trips I took to Europe this year I sure missed it, and actually adjusted my travel so I wasn't out of touch for what felt like a whole day.

WiFi in the sky for the business traveler is a wonderful way to stay connected.

Orbitz Updates For The Working Anywhere Crowd

Hat tip to Joe Brancatelli of "Joe Sent Me..." on this one.

Orbitz, which may be the most tech savvy of the travel portals, has launched a mashup of sorts with information that is perfect for the road warrior and frequent flier. The new site has user generated content that delivers first had perspectives on travel much like trip advisor, but with real time updates, plus data feeds on flight delays, security check in times and more.

Softitel Philadelphia

The Sofitel in Philadelphia is an awesome broadband experience. They offered iBahn wired in the rooms, but T-Mobile everywhere.

My speeds, over 2.3 megs in both directions on T-Mobile. I never turn on iBahn this trip. The T-Mobile experience was great for downloading iTunes videos quickly, for VoIP calls on both GizmoProject and Skype and was lightning quick with web pages.

You really do get what you pay for.

Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport Terminal D

One more reason for airline clubs. Decent broadband.

In the general terminal area I'm getting at best 236k down on a Sunday, but over a meg upload ability. This tell me that alot of people are likely on the network, but also that the network is underpowered.

Compare this to Philadelphia, which is an AT&T/Wayport powered network where the bandwidth down was over 2 megs with a similar upload level.
