    Google Pulls SMS From GMAIL

In what I thought was a very good move, Google decided to remove the just released SMS feature in GMAIL due to some bugs in the system.

Many companies will let the consumer be their beta lab, and the frustration will mount. Not in Big G's case. The Mountain View folks played it smart, deciding to not put their customer's messages at risk.

SMS for Google is a very interesting move because of how the compensation model between mobile operators works. It puts them into the game in something that is high margin, low cost. With ads to go along with an SMS Google will likely have found another high profit cash cow to give away for free.
