Long Road Ahead of Us for Mobile VoIP Says Skype

Skype thinks the road to mobile VoIP is three to four years out according to a DSL/Broadband Reports story.

With companies like client Truphone already showing how easy it can work on Nokia N and E Series devices, I think the non-carrier cooperative model is going to happen sooner. I also see the UMA play from T-Mobile gaining traction as well as the 3 SkypePhone, which isn't really VoIP. Maybe its that agreement and direction that is causing Skype to take a more somber approach to things.....you think?

This site describe an interesting method on how
to use VoIP to make cell phone calls without paying for airtime:

Skype has some legitimate worries about the timeline for mobile VoIP, but the game may change soon, if Google wins 700 MHz spectrum in the auction that begins on January 24th. More on my blog at http://ikeelliott.typepad.com/telecosm/2008/01/google-could-ac.html
