This is called a bellweather announcement from AT&T.

By dropping the price to $65 a month for all kinds of unlimited data, visual voicemail and SMS means that the new high water mark has been set and that over time we will see the price points dropping, and more options for mobile data coming from the carriers.

Once the iPhone gets 3G this becomes a very meaningful offer.
