Muni WiFi-The Wrong Place at the Wrong Time

VoIP News and Notes-Saturday September 1 2007

Today being Saturday, and a holiday weekend, I'll be out and about but there are some interesting post.

Skype Journal Jim Courtney writes about more mobile telephony plays. In his post he mentions Mobivox, Truphone, Cubic, iotum and Thomas Howe, plus a few more Skype options.

Om Malik has a post about Meraki and Sonic.Net working to make sure San Francisco has some form of public WiFi offered in light of the Earthlink tech quake that has rocked many a municipality.

Microsoft acquired Parlano to help fill a missing piece of their presence and group chat platform for the enterprise.

TechCrunch rumors about lots of layoffs at AOL. That explains why some friends there have been using Facebook and Linked in of late. Those are two tell tale indicators of layoff and people sprucing up their resume and references....

The Orlando Sentinal profiles three video conferencing programs. I don't get it. AOL's Video is an old platform and compared to SightSpeed (or even Yahoo) a pokey player. Yet when ooVoo is being compared, no one goes head to head ever with what it really competes with.

More details emerging about the new Pat Phalen offering over on BlogNation. The product name will be MaxRoam.
