Playing With Video From Far Away

Ken Rutkowski and I co-host a daily show called the World Technology RoundUp on KenRadio and have for the past nine years together.

Today we played with Skype Video, which while improving still doesn't hold a candle to SightSpeed (who I will admit is a client of my agency.) We also did something very neat. We fired up two new Nokia Nseries N800's and using GoogleTalk had a video conversation.

In my view the video is better than Skype, but not at SightSpeed level, and candidly the device makes video truly portable. If the Nokia folks had the SightSpeed technology on the N800 it would be something that everyone has ever dreamed of when it comes to the idea of the Dick Tracy wristwatch video.

The N800's video is very, very, very good for a thin client. It works, is near 30 frames per second and the audio is something that one doesn't get often. It doesn't have any echoing or feedback.

For those of you who want to experience this with us, I encourage you to order an N800, because the device has something special going on....and the video is a real head turner.

If you have one, send me a note with your Gmail account and lets chat, talk and see one another soon.
