Jangled Up In Blue

I've been busy this week and forget to mention the Jangl launch with Match.com.

I knew this was coming and kept respecting the embargo that their PR guy, Tim, was asking for. well, no more. Alec beat me to the punch with his post. Candidly, this was an example of IAC's Match.com controlling the story, and leaving Jangl on the sidelines. As a matter of fact, until Tim started his official out reach, we were all still supposed to be unsure if Jangl was the partner for match.com

An AP story broke about Match.com offering phone numbers for daters. Jangl was left out and so were the VoIP bloggers.

Andy, thanks.

You are correct -- you were one of very, very few who knew about the identity of the partner in advance. Please know I tried to gracefully walk the line between representing Jangl's interests, Match's interest, and your interests, with my hands tied the entire time.

This issue, this time, transcended any communications effort and cut right to the heart of the business deal itself. At the same time, I normally try to be very forthcoming with VoIP bloggers like you and many others, because we value your feedback and respect your ability to generate a candid dialogue that benefits everyone interesting in the space.

Hence, I was really torn here. In short, it sucked to be me.

Lots of details in the process that I'm not at liberty to talk about, but suffice to say that it wasn't the ideal launch I'd normally want for folks in the VoIP blogging community.

I do want to thank you, specifically, for respecting my position for so many months. It was a tremendous class act, and speaks to your professionalism as both a blogger and counselor. It it much appreciated, Andy.
