It's clear that the mobile carriers are doing their best to keep as many minutes on their networks by hook or by crook. Dean Bubley, one of the better and free thinking mobile analysts has spent a lot of time covering the mobile/fixed mobile convergence space and weighs in with an opinion.

His closing point (scroll down to the bottom of his post) about niche players being where the difference is, really is what I believe. My gut tells me that the mobile operators who embraces the VoIP world and delivers a new combination of communication tools will rule the roost.
