Skype Google Sequia Back wifi FON

Om has the definitive piece on the FON venture and how they are now backed by 2.0 companies Skype and Google.

The implications on how this impacts the traditional telcos are enourmous and it also puts the idea of alliances, and with it, some Balkanizing of the 'Net more in play. Clearly the lines are being drawn, at the highest levels, and where real money is involved.

Carriers are going to be hard pressed to not be involved at some level. What that involvement is still needs to be determined, especially for Alien roamers.

This AP story is also revealing about the service.
