Austrian ENUM sage and telecom expert Richard Statsny has a rather insightful post about VON. While I don't agree with every point (especially about IMS) I do think he's hit the mark. The point about the FCC is very much right on.
While Jeff has commented that the FCC seemed to avoid the conference intentionally, I don't think the comments have been totally taken to heart. Last year the FCC under Michael Powell were all about letting VoIP grow. The current leadership has a different view. But by the absence and avoidance they have adopted an approach of turning a deaf ear to the future. How they can make rulings and provide guidance with only visits to Washington without seeing and hearing what's brewing and bubbling at the forefront of telephony is beyond me.
Hopefully the FCC shows up at other conferences, otherwise we know for whom their Bell tolls.
