Sunday New York Times On VoIP

Ken Belson of the New York Times has a nice piece on the benefits of VoIP. Being that it was written for the "Your Money" section of the Sunday paper the focus was on cost savings but also went into cable companies and call quality. it also included a reference to VONAGE, Verizon and AT&T.

He also forecasts that SBC after the AT&T merger will market CallVantage. I also keep hearing whispers that the folks at Yahoo, SBC's portal partner in DSL, are asking SBC what they are doing.

I fully expect Yahoo to make their position clearer in the next few months as well as Earthlink, which appears to be heading into a multi-pronged strategy beyond reselling Vonage, which I don't anticipate they will be dropping. That begs the question if there is double counting of subscribers going on between the two when it comes to industry take rates for VoIP.
