Only at Internet Telephony

I'm not five minutes into the hotel lobby when a lady of the evening joins two friends of mine and I in the elevator as we're all heading up. She got off the lift when one of the others got off and proceeded to proposition him with a massage...fortunately it was in that order..

I guess what happens in Miami, stays in Miami...

Six Miles High for Skype

The song Six Miles High should be adopted by Skype based on a posting that has Skype being used on Connexion by Boeing.

I'm sure that the leaders at Skype can use Kazaa to find the track.

Giving out WiFi SIP Phones

Giving out WiFi SIP Phones at Apricot 2005 is James Seng. They are giving out Hitatchi WiFI phones, something that are new.

If you read through James' post you will see to the extent the planners have gone to enable termination. What's more they have also enabled softphones that are SIP based to work on the ad hoc network.

Now what's cool about this is it is being done via different service providers and across borders and is being done to show the benefits of VoIP, WiFi phones, Enum. While this is a bit of a geek fest type of effort my view is this has been simplified to the point of set up and use it.

This type of experimentation is needed at more conferences. Jeff, you hear an opportunity for sponsorship, a demonstration opportunity and more importantly innovation at conferences here in the USA?

Florida Here I Come

After a wedding tonight with my fiance, I'm off mid morning on Monday for the Internet Telephony VoIP 2.0 conference. I'm excited as not only will it be a great warm up for VON in two weeks but I'll get to catch up with some friend sooner than March. I'm moderating a Service Provider Panel on Friday morning and will be doing a bunch of briefings with VoIP company executives and suppliers.

The VON is already shaping up to be a blockbuster. Based on the number of calls I'm getting from PR reps I fully expect there not to be one free minute the entire week.

Oh will I need a vaction after that event !

Just Say No To Verizon and MCI

Just Say No To Verizon and MCI is Rich Tehrani's view on the proposed merger. The deal which will be good for shareholders is a bad one for consumers in his mind.

Given how the DoJ went after Microsoft don't be surprised if they use some of the same logic when it comes to this merger. While not a monopoly environment, we are entering a period of oligopoly which could mean higher prices, and less rapid deployment of new services.

I say...bring on WiMax, but keep the telcos out of it for at least ten years.

GSM - watch VoIP

GSM - watch VoIP--James Seng in Singapore has a post about GSM, WiFi and VoIP. He quotes Mike Mulica CEO of Bridgeport Networks. If you are not familiar with Bridgeport they have some of the smartest guys in the crossover biz involving Mobile and VoIP.

I keep watching this company closely and am never amazed by what they do, because they are the kind of company you want expect them to do great things. Between their Management team's background and the technology they are creating plus their insight, makes them idea experts in the convergence space.
