    Better Not Say

    Dearest Friends:
I am Mexican and want to share some words with you.
All you have heard about TELMEX is real and is causing serious trouble to our country's economy. The thing is that people in Mexico is suffering with the service provided by communication companies and nobody does a thing. The saddest part is that any person who had the power and will to start a competition business will be erased from the way because of the corruption. The only hope Mexicans like me have is working hard to make a difference but this is like Cuba problems, we don´t see a good way out.

Yes, it might be that Vonage is in trouble in Mexico due to the fact that corruption in Mexico is so much, that probably TELMEX (Telefonos de Mexico) or (Lada) Which is the same thing, has already given a huge and juicy bribe to the Mexican Government and the president of the Cofetel Jorge Arredondo. The fact is that TELMEX which is a monopoly, charges for every local phone call that you make and also you get a local call charge for dialing long distance. This actually became an excellent way to rip all it customers off because there is nothing they could do. Since Carlos Salinas de Gortary became a President, and who many people say he is the owner of such company and usses a name such as "Carlos Slim" to hide his identity.
Mexican people had had to suffer the consequences of having this thieves as the only local phone company. It seems they are spreading to South America like a plague. The poor people of Mexico has to put up with them because thay have no choice. I think and I am a 100% sure that TELMEX has lots to do with it.

I don't know what it's like today, but when my former agency was working with Avantel it was amazing to learn what the phone structure there was like... It was so difficult to change the billing information and address for someone that it was easier to simply maintain the line after someone had moved or died... This posed issues for the phone companies since they had no idea who their customers were over time and customers might have issues changing aspects of service since it was not their name on bills. ;)

This actually made it more attractive for cellular as that developed since you could start fresh with a phone in your name.
