Roland has a post about how VoIP will be a feature, not a service...For a long time I've thought that companies like Cisco and Microsoft will be the phone company of the future, along with AOL, Yahoo and others.
Now, I look at ventures like Popular Telephony, SKYPE and others and wonder if it is really the network or the endpoint? Will hand set manufacturers have a bigger role in the future by changing the model?
Can a retailer like Wal*Mart or Costco with the right tecnology partner and so many consumers begin to be phone companies? Could a sports franchise like Manchester United or the New York Yankees become a phone brand?
The answer to all of the above is yes.
This is really great!
