Depending how one interprets the statement in this story, 8x8 has somewhere between 17,000 and 25,000 or so users.
Given how much money is behind them on the public market, and how long they have been at the VoIP game, Vonage has kicked their butt all over the place with an inferior grade of service. That's also before one looks at services like Skype or pay services like AT&T's CallVantage, which has yet to announce customer stats.
I also don't understand the continual depositioning by reporters about power outages, especially in light of the Florida situation. More FUD from the telcos is the likely story.
