    The Portable Internet

The ITU will issue in September a report entitled "The Portable Internet" and the tease promises details on "disruptive technologies."

Certainly WiFi has been and will continue to be disruptive as it has leapfrogged GPRS and EVDO in many ways when the idea of Portable versus Mobile is applied. That said, in the portable arena it will be interesting to see how far they go with new VoIP technologies like Peerio, PhoneGaim/SipPhone, Skype, etc. all of which are seeking to change how telephony works. Add in the ideas like eNUM, what Pulver is doing with LibreTel, the WiFi phone, softphones and all of a sudden telephony is not just hardphone, landline, cellular or wireline any more.
