TCS on Skype
July 01, 2004
Kevin Werbach, over at TechCentralStation, a blog which is part political advocacy, part news, part tech has posted a viewpoint on Skype.
The key here is the fact that the creators of Skype have found cracks in the regulations of not only the FCC but many of the PTT's around the globe. With Skype Out, anyone who can open an account can start making cheap calls from any IP connected PC or PDA. In countries where the PTT's are very much seeking to keep control of all things voice, Skype out, more so than FWD (Free World Dialup) or SipPhone is a major disruptor.
15 million downloads, not people using Skype is the number being bandied about. Even if 10 percent of the downloads are in fact using Skype, and one percent overall are using Skype out, that makes Skype the global VoIP leader from the start, or ties them with Vonage for leadership in the category of who has the most.
Hey Andy~
I still am in need to try my pocket skype, if any fellow readers wish to help they can email me.
